There are several types of recycling of glass products: as casting flux, transformation and utilisation, refurbishment, and recycling of raw materials.
1. As casting flux
Crushed glass can be used as a flux for melting cast steel and cast copper alloys, covering the melt to prevent oxidation.
Second, transformation and utilisation
Converted utilisation is a form of recycling that is in urgent need of development. In the future, there will be many new technologies that can bring added value to transformational utilisation. Pretreated broken glass processed into small glass particles can be used for the following purposes:
(1) The use of glass fragments as pavement compositions has been tested in the United States and Canada for several years. It has been proved that, compared with other materials, the use of glass fragments as pavement composites results in fewer vehicle skidding accidents; proper reflection of light; good wear and tear on the pavement; and fast melting of snow, making it suitable for use at low temperatures and other places.
(2) Mixing broken glass with building materials to make building prefabricated parts, building bricks and other building products. It has been proved in practice that the pressed plastic products with organic matter as cement have high dimensional accuracy and strength, and low production cost.
(3) Crushed glass is used to make architectural surface decoration, reflective materials, arts and crafts and clothing accessories with beautiful visual effects.
(4) The mixture of glass and plastic waste and building materials can be made into synthetic building products.
3、Refurbishment:the recycled glass is pre-treated and melted back to the furnace to produce glass containers and glass fibre.
4. Raw material recycling utilises recycled broken glass as an additive raw material for glass products, as adding the right amount of broken glass helps the glass to melt at a lower temperature.
5. Reusable glass bottles. The scope of reusable packaging is mainly low-value, high-volume commodity packaging glass bottles. Such as beer bottles, soft drink bottles, soy sauce bottles, vinegar bottles and some canning bottles.
